We were recently asked by our client ASDA to work on their 2016 Christmas Lookbook which features ASDA Food as well as George Home and as Christmas is a such big time for all supermarkets, they wanted us to do something special and surprising making ASDA stand out from the crowd. The Lookbook needed to feature food and home photography to profile the Christmas ranges for both to the press. The objective was to get PR coverage on a national scale.
We had to make the Christmas Lookbook really special so we started by looking at GF Smith for some amazing Christmas style papers and we ended up deciding on Twist Gold an amazing metallic gold paper stock with white fluffy threads bonded to it’s surface. We then went on to create a snowflake design as part of the Christmas theme. We laser cut this intricate snowflake in to the cover to show through a metallic gold paper printed with more white snowflakes underneath. We finished the whole look off with a gold material taped spine and when all these elements came together, it created an amazing look that was very unexpected for ASDA.
For the layouts we designed them to be modern and fresh while showcasing large impressive photography with the added graphic details of snowflakes and different fonts for the titles and descriptive copy. Interspersed throughout the Lookbook we added tracing paper half pages with metallic gold ink to introduce the ranges and keep the photography uncluttered. To split the sections we also had a contents and introduction on a very tactile heavy white GF Smith paper with a textured finish, and gold metallic ink reminiscent of fresh snow.
The comments we had back from the team at ASDA were very positive and the press event was very well received with ASDA seeing a lot of new PR coverage as a result of our work.
